FAQ & install help
Honest, specific answers about applying and managing Codex skins. For step-by-step instructions, see the install guide and tutorials.
Safety boundary
A skin styles Codex visually only. Injection happens over 127.0.0.1
(loopback), your official files are untouched, your API key is never read, and everything is
reversible. Always review a source before applying, and avoid running untrusted local programs
while a skin is active.
Is applying a Codex skin safe?
Skins style Codex at the visual layer only. The dominant engines inject CSS/JS into the running renderer over the Chrome DevTools Protocol bound to 127.0.0.1 (your own loopback address). They do not modify the Codex app bundle, do not touch your API key or provider config, and are fully reversible with a one-click restore.
How do I install a skin?
Open Codex, copy the install prompt from the skin page, and paste it into Codex Desktop or the Codex CLI. Most desktop skins also work through an engine preset or manager "apply" button. Each skin page lists the exact steps and the copyable prompt.
Which platforms are supported — Desktop or CLI?
Codex Desktop skins apply through an engine (preset or agent prompt). Codex CLI skins are syntax/terminal themes you drop in as a .tmTheme and select with the /theme command. Every skin page shows its compatible platforms as badges.
A preview image looks broken — what happened?
Each skin links to an external source that owns its artwork. If that source changes or removes the image, you will see a "Source may have changed" placeholder. The install prompt and source link still work; you can report the broken entry from the skin page.
Can I go back to the default look?
Yes. Every engine supports a restore step — either a one-click restore in the manager or a single command from the source. Skins never overwrite official Codex updates, so restoring returns you to a clean stock appearance.
I'd like to advertise on this site — how does it work?
Great — placements are clearly labeled and never disguised as organic results. Sponsorship covers the homepage banner, category sidebars, and skin detail footers, with monthly, quarterly, and annual pricing on the rate card. Send a brief via the contact form (pick "Advertising / Sponsor slot"), including your site URL, target audience, and budget range; we reply within 1–2 business days with the media kit. Pilot slots at half price are available to validate clicks first.
Are paid or sponsored skins clearly marked?
Yes. Any sponsored placement on this site carries an explicit "Sponsored" label and is kept visually distinct from organic results. Organic listings are a neutral index with no payment required to be included.
Do skins read my API key or prompts?
No. Skinning is independent of API configuration and runs entirely on your machine over the loopback address. It does not read or transmit your API key, base URL, model settings, or any project data.
